The first dinner began in 1919, followed by a second dinner in 1923, then held
annual dinners beginning in 1925.  They were skipped the years 1943-47 due to World War II. Regular dinners and meetings began again in 1948.        

    Traditionally, the chairmanship was rotated among local military unit leadership, specifically, National Guard and Reserve in Greater Louisville Area and Fort Knox.
